There are artificial water-storage ponds located on the territory of the urban settlement of Mytischi as included into the system of Moscow Canal that connects the capital to the seas of the European part of Russia and supplying water for Moscow and Moscow suburbs. The Ishkinskoye, Pestovskoye, Kliazmenskoye, Khimkinskoye and Akulovskoye Water-Storage Ponds interconnected among them were created.
Navigation was started on the Volga-Moscow Canal on May 2, 1937. In 1947 the canal was given the name of the capital in the honour of the 800th anniversary of Moscow.
The picturesque banks of the water-storage ponds serve as popular recreation sites, and the water area serves as a place for holding of competitions in sailing sports of the national Russian and international levels.
The sectrets of the manufacturing and painting of the handmade metal trays, caskets , match-boxes, playing cards, spectacle cases and snuffboxes had been saved by generations. Fedoskino and Zhostovo created the essence of art and during its long history developed the unique school of handmade crafts art in Mytischi.

In the city there is an ancient village Taininskoe known since the 15th century as a patrimony of the great Moscow princes and rulers, as a country residence, this village was a favorite country residence of Ivan the Terrible, Catherin II The Great, the empress Elizaveta Petrovna. , where the Church of Annunciation was built in the 17th century.
The Central Temple of the city The Church of the Nativity was built and consecrated in 2005.
